That's awesome you didn't have to put down a deposit. It must be a Beijing thing.. I hope some people in other cities can confirm. My iPhone isn't jailbroken so I can't use Slingplayer or Skype over 3G but I'm getting about 2.5mb/s down (when there's 3G service available). A lot of times it switches to the much slower GPRS and I'm contemplating whether to switch back to China Mobile for a constant Edge connection.

Does your phone number also start with the 186 prefix?

I just signed up for the 186 plan in Chengdu and did not have to put down a deposit. it is fast enough to skype over and watch my slingplayer. but it burns up too much bandwidth. I upgraded to 150MB for an additional 20rmb so my plan is 206 a month. I did not have to put down a deposit and it works in my Iphone 3G from america that is jailbroken. when i do speed tests it is around 400kb/s
